Gas work is the one thing no homeowner should DIY. It's also the one thing most handymen and general contractors aren't actually licensed to do — a proper plumbing license covers gas, HVAC contractors don't, and a general contractor needs a specific endorsement. We're fully licensed and do gas work the right way: pressure-tested, permitted, and inspected. Our specialty is the SFV's aging housing stock where the original gas lines predate modern seismic codes and have never been checked since the 1971 or 1994 quakes.

What's Included

New Appliance Hookup

Range, dryer, water heater, outdoor kitchen, pool heater, fire pit, generator. Correct sizing of supply line, shutoff valve, flex connector, drip leg, and pressure test.

Gas Leak Detection

Electronic sniffer + pressure decay test. We locate the leak to within inches, not within "somewhere in the wall," so repair is surgical.

Gas Line Repair

Black pipe, CSST, galvanized — we repair or replace in kind. If an old galvanized line shows scale, we recommend a full gas repipe rather than patching.

Post-Earthquake Inspection

Comprehensive check of visible lines, appliance connections, and shutoff valves. Pressure test confirms integrity. Especially important for homes near the Sylmar and Northridge faults.

Seismic Gas Shutoff

Installation of an automatic seismic shutoff valve — triggers at magnitude 5.4+ motion to prevent post-quake gas-fed fires. Required by some lenders for older LA homes.

Permit & Pressure Test

Every gas line job is permitted, pressure-tested to code (typically 10 PSI for 15 minutes), and inspected by the AHJ before being returned to service.

Frequently Asked Questions

I smell gas. What do I do right now?

Leave the home — don't flip lights or start a car. Call SoCalGas at 1-800-427-2200 first; they dispatch for free. After they make the home safe, call us at (818) 768-2032 for the actual repair.

Do I need a permit to run a new gas line?

Yes. Any new gas work in LA County requires a permit. Skipping the permit can void your homeowner's insurance and create massive liability if a fire or explosion ever occurs.

What's CSST and do I need to worry about it?

CSST is corrugated stainless steel tubing — common in homes built or renovated since the mid-2000s. It works fine but requires proper bonding to ground against lightning strikes. If your home has CSST and you're unsure whether it's bonded, we can check.

How much does gas line work cost?

New appliance hookup $275–$550. Leak detection $275–$450. Partial gas repipe $1,500–$4,500. Full home gas repipe $3,500–$8,000 depending on layout and appliance count.

Why should I inspect gas lines after an earthquake?

Shaking can loosen threaded joints, crack pipe where it enters a rigid appliance connection, or break shutoff valve internals. Slow leaks can go unnoticed for months. A $275 inspection is cheap insurance.
